Sexuality & Making Better Decisions Workshop

Children develop at different rates, but once the first children start reaching puberty, usually in primary school, conversations and behaviours involving relationships and sex become more common. By the time students are in secondary school, many will have already experienced peer pressure about ‘losing their virginity.’

While some teachers and parents have concerns about exposing children to a sex education workshop too early in their lives, the consequences of providing one too late are far worse. Society has a duty to protect young people, and a large part of that mission involves helping them to make informed, sensible choices when it comes to their sexuality.

Although parents may seem to be in the best place to talk to their children about sex and relationships, some may not be in possession of current, accurate information and others may find communication at this level awkward or even impossible, preferring to let their child’s school tackle the issue.

If your school is planning to organise a sex education workshop, consider booking a 2020 Dreams Sexuality and Making Better Decisions workshop.

More Than your Average Sex Education Workshop

2020 Dreams offer a fresh and cutting edge approach to providing young people with important sexual health and relationships information. Rather than relying on traditional methods, which might involve a course leader delivering a lecture, we ensure that students experience maximum engagement using modern, proven teaching techniques.

Drama-based role-play scenarios are always a hit with children and teenagers who respond well to being asked to step into the shoes of someone else.

Thank you so much for helping us out at such short notice!

Thank you so much for helping us out at such short notice! All three sessions (Contraception, Sex & Making Better Choices and Gang Awareness) were really well run and very valuable to our students. As I was walking around I could see all students were fully engaged and having lots of fun. Staff commented on how engaged students were during the workshops and we would most certainly love to have your team back again!

The Consent & Contraception workshop went really well

The Consent & Contraception workshop went really well. The facilitator was incredibly engaging, he was able to hold the students’ attention very easily and there was a great balance of humour and seriousness. I’ve had really positive feedback from the students already, they have learned so much but don’t feel overwhelmed with facts and figures and it wasn’t death by PowerPoint. We would be delighted to invite 2020 Dreams back.

The realistic scenarios presented are designed to drive home the message much more effectively than a standard sex education workshop can. But what is the message? That the consequences of making poor decisions regarding sexual health can be devastating and that the risk of STDs, unplanned pregnancies and sexual exploitation are never worth the short-term excitement that unsafe sex can deliver.

Another way in which a 2020 Dreams Sexuality and Making Better Decisions workshop differs from a traditional sex education workshop is in our facilitated discussion forums. Children lead the debates, contributing their own experiences and opinions, with the experienced facilitators on hand to provide prompts and to keep discussions on point.

Students will be encouraged to come up with their own strategies for resisting peer pressure and feeling good about themselves without being compelled to prematurely enter a sexual relationship.

Sexuality, Relationships and the National Curriculum

The government has recognised the profound importance of teaching children about sexual health by making provision for it in the National Curriculum. A sex education workshop from 2020 Dreams will enhance any PSHE and/or Sex and Relationships programme that your school already provides, with our refreshing approach to teaching guaranteed to inspire and educate in equal measure.
