Key Aims of our Online Safety Workshops

It is natural for young people to share and connect with others via the internet, but this new era of connectivity whether through gaming or social media opens the doors to many risks. The aim of 2020 Dreams Internet Safety Workshops for Schools is to raise awareness to stay safe online and to expose the hidden dangers it may bring, from cyberbullying to privacy, grooming and false identities.

Our workshops will help your young people learn the difference between what’s personal and what’s best left private and most importantly where to get help and support from if being a victim online.

The Gang Prevention Workshop Was Excellent

Thanks for providing us with such a high quality workshop facilitator at short notice. The Gang Prevention workshop was excellent and well received by all of our students. His stories had our students hanging on his every word.  I am sure our students will remember his workshop for a long time in the future and hopefully it will make them think, if they ever find themselves in some of the situations he described in his talk.

Learn More About our Internet Safety Workshops

At 2020 Dreams, we believe that teaching internet safety workshops has to be a top priority for schools, academies, colleges and other learning institutions. It is clear that many parents and teachers lack both digital skills and the confidence to properly protect children and young adults from an extensive range of online dangers. Computing, mobile technology and online spaces have developed massively over the last 20 years.

They continue to bring us exciting new ways to work, learn, play and socialise. But there is a serious flip-side to the benefits the internet delivers, particularly for kids, young children and teenagers. Most notably, when learning IT skills to use a wide range of web-based platforms well before they reach the social and psychological maturity to safely protect themselves from online dangers.

Even the best online security software is no substitute for a clearer understanding of the dangers that lurk in cyberspace. There are a vast array of steps that children can take to protect themselves, recognise problems and report any concerns they might have.

Our Workshops Cover all Aspects of Internet Safety

2020 Dreams online safety training for schools covers every aspect of internet safety. Workshops are suitable for all key stage groups including KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4 and KS5. We teach kids, young children, teenagers and young adults everything they need to protect themselves from a plethora of ubiquitous online dangers.

Typical topics covered in our online safety talks include cyber-bullying, false online identities, keeping personal information private, sharing explicit content and much more. We help the student understand what personal information is and how to keep it private, to recognising and responding to cyber-bullying.

Our internet safety workshops are presented by experienced facilitators skilled in talking and engaging with young people. Content can be tailored to suit the needs of any age group, from primary school kids to middle school children and adolescents. Our online safety talks are delivered by Powerpoint (PPT) presentation and range in length from 1-4 hours.

Online Protection in the National Curriculum

Computing lessons form a statutory part of the National Curriculum. The combination of this focused tuition and personal experience means that many school children and young adults quickly learn how to navigate their way around a keyboard and the World Wide Web.

By the time children reach secondary or middle school, and often earlier, they are already sophisticated IT users able to circumvent security protocols and parental. As a result, it has become increasingly easier for them to be put in danger before they have the tools to learn important lessons and deal with the dangers posed.

For this reason, internet safety training needs to be brought in early and to focus on teaching kids, young children and teenagers the real dangers they face and the implications of making unwise choices.

What the National Curriculum has to say:

The National Curriculum’s computing section states that students should be taught to be:

“responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.”

It goes on to say that it is the responsibility of all school teachers to educate their pupils to,

“use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private,”

to recognise unacceptable behaviour and to,

“identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.”

It is a sad fact that some parents can be blasé about allowing their kids and young children to roam free in cyberspace. Consequently, it becomes vitally important that teachers step in to provide learning and guidance on internet safety. This can be difficult when the dangers may not be immediately apparent and lessons cannot be learnt.

By the end of Key Stage Three (KS3), middle school children should be able to use IT securely. They should be able to protect their own identity and privacy and recognise inappropriate content. Additionally, by the time they leave school they should also understand,

“how changes in technology affect safety, including new ways to protect their online privacy and identity, and how to identify and report a range of concerns.”

2020 Dreams specially tailored internet safety workshops will ensure your school, college, charity or learning institution delivers on these government demands.
